There are no drive-yourself-cars for hire but visitors get about easily by taxi, bus, ferry, and motor-scooters (no driver's license is required).
We drive on the left-hand side of the road.
Speed limit is 35 kilometers (20 miles) per hour. Cyclists should note that gas stations are open 7 am to 7 pm daily, with several open until 11 pm or later.
Taxis
Bermuda taxi operators are among the world's finest. Taxis may be hired by the hour, day or mile (full day is 6 consecutive daylight hours). Rates per cab same for 1 person up to a maximum of 6 for normal transportation and general sightseeing. Special all inclusive pre-sold tours vary in price per person. All taxis are metered and tariff fixed by law. Rates are the same for all: $4 for the first mile, $1.40 each additional mile. Higher rates after 10 pm. Qualified "Blue Flag" taxi tour guides are available on request for touring.
Buses
Clean, modern, efficient pink and blue buses operate on regular schedules all day (there is no late night service). Exact change, tokens or tickets are required. Tokens may be purchased at some hotels and guest houses, sub-post offices, and at the Central Terminal in Hamilton on Church Street (next to City Hall & Arts Centre). Multi-day money-saving Transportation Passes for three or seven days allow for unlimited bus trips. Pin and blue striped poles indicate a bus stop.
Mini-Bus service and tours are available on the East End of the island serving St. Georges, Ferry Reach (Biological Station) and St. David's Island. On the West End from Somerset Bridge and Watford Bridge to Dockyard and on the Central Parishes of Pembroke and Devonshire.
Motor Assisted Cycles
Many visitors enjoy getting from here to there on mopeds and motor scooters. Rentals are available by the 1/2 day, day, week and long-term. The cost varies according to length of rental and type of cycle: single-seater, double-seater, scooter, moped, etc. Helmets are compulsory and available for rent. Insurance and deposit required. Riding age minimum is 16 years old. Most gas stations are open 7am-7pm daily, with several open until 11pm or later. Plan appropriately. Pedal bicycles (including bicycles built for two) are available for rental from some cycle liveries located throughout Bermuda.
Ferries
Ferry service runs on a regular schedule on Hamilton Harbour (Hamilton, Paget, Warwick), and points on the West End (Somerset, the Royal Naval Dockyard and points in between). Bicycles may be taken on board; mopeds (additional charge) on the West End Ferry only.
Horse and Carriages
Horse and Carriage tours are a pleasant, old world way to see Bermuda. By day the drivers will point out the sights, and in the evenings nothing could be more romantic. Rates for one- and two-horse rigs are fixed by law.
